Description

We are very familiar with this chassis as we build complete reproduction 1937 and 1938 Chevrolet Cabriolet and Sedan Delivery bodies and chassis to match. We have also built many to go under original steel bodies. The 1938 and 1939 chassis are exactly same, and the 1937 chassis differs only in the taper of the chassis as it comes down from the rear-axle kick up. We produce both ('37-specific or ’38-’39 style) and original steel bodies will bolt up without any issue. For all years, the trunk floor will require some modification to accommodate the rear shock crossmember not found in the original suspension Unlike some other chassis on the market, we use 4-piece rails assembled in our fixtures to reproduce the exact curves and tapers of the original frame. Each frame includes the four original body mounts at the cowl and just forward of the rear wheels. We have also eliminated the lip found at the bottom of this original frame design which is not only cleaner looking, but adds some additional tire clearance in the rear..

We can build yours with a traditional axle front end, or make it handle like a modern sports car with independent front and/or rear suspension systems. For an independent front, the Heidt's Mustang II is a good choice for both value and high-performance but an upgrade to a Kugel Komponents or Heidts Superide II IFS is available for even more 'show and go'. In the rear, we spec this car chassis with a street-rod specific set of lowered leaf springs that compliment drop axle or drop spindle front ends. While we prefer the ride of the leaf springs on this heavier car (especially if it is a sedan), a triangulated 4-bar and/or air bags are optional upgrades.

The following describes our 'standard' Complete Rolling Package that can be used as a starting point for planning your custom build. Each chassis is built to your specs and we can typically accommodate special requests or build features - just ask!
