Description

The Art Deco Chevy pickups are a wonderful design from a challenging time in our country's history. Despite limited production numbers during World War II, many of these trucks have found themselves in the hands of car enthusiasts. Like most old trucks, their chassis can show considerable wear after all these years. We offer a safe, strong, and good looking chassis built to Chevy’s original specs that will accept original and aftermarket sheetmetal. Suitable for a restoration or a radical hot rod. One drawback of the original frame shape is the very low rear-axle kick up which limits lowering of the the truck. If you need to get your truck down, we can use the taller kick up used on the 1/2 frame or install a c-notch. According to our research, the 3/4 Ton long box will mount over this taller kick up without modifications. (Photo of taller kick up shown, or see the '46 1/2 Ton chassis product page.)

Our recommended front suspension is a Heidts or TCI Mustang II IFS. A traditional axle front end, Kugel Komponents IFS or Heidts Superide IFS is also available. In the rear, we recommend parallel leaf springs which we feel provide superior ride quality for these heavy trucks, especially if you intend to put a few rod-run supplies in the back. We use a custom made spring pack which lowers the rear of the car and provides a nice hot-rod rake when combined with the IFS. To further lower the rear another 2”, we can mount these springs inboard of the frame, rather than under. A triangulated or parallel 4-bar is also an option. Note, the photos show the first 3/4 ton chassis we recently built as a 4x4. We now have the patterns, fixtures, and measurements needed to build this as a street rod, just as we have been building the 1/2 ton '46 truck and many other truck chassis for years.
