1937-38 Chevy Sedan Delivery S10 Body Kit

Superior Glass Works is excited to offer our new 37 Chevy Sedan Delivery S10 Body Kit that permits the installation of our ’37 Chevy fiberglass bodies on a donor S10 pickup truck frame. The original body lines and dimensions are retained, but we made a few enhancements and brought it into the 21st century. The top is chopped 3 inches in front and 2 inches at the rear, and we added the 6-inch-longer coupe doors which really streamline to looks of this delivery. The corners of the door have been rounded, the pillar post leaned to match, and Ford-style drip rails replace the original bulky gutters. The rolled rear pan wraps it all together. Looks best with our sloped-nose, 1-inch Pie-Cut Hood Package.
Ideal for the street rodder who can’t find an original ’37-'39 Chevy frame for one of these bodies or one who wants to save a few dollars while putting together a nice driving hot rod.

Donor Chassis -
Any 1983-2002 S-10, 2-wheel drive pickup with a 118” (Standard cab/long bed) or 123” (Extended cab/short bed) wheelbase is a suitable donor. Either size requires the stock S10 wheelbase to be shorted to 113.25” as needed for our 1937-38 Chevy body. This is accomplished by either installing a 4-bar rear suspension or shortening the center of the donor frame.
Effort and Skills Required -
This is NOT a bolt-on kit. Fabrication, welding, general problem-solving, and hot-rodding skills are required to modify the donor S10 frame to complete the installation of our 1937-38 Chevy body.
Summary of Frame Modifications
Remove all original body, bed, transmission, and motor mounts.
Remove steering box and steering linkage
Cut off front and rear of frame
Install rack and pinion - There are several kits available for the S10 chassis that will work. (OR slightly modify the front fender to add clearance for the stock stearing box.)
Adjust Wheelbase – Shorten frame (cut and re-weld) or install 4-bar (kits available)
Fabricate radiator support, motor and transmission mounts
- The floor of our body kit for the S10 frame has been built to contour exactly to the S10 donor frame you are using and will bolt down without modification. The one-piece nose requires fabrication to install in the style you choose, and it can be made to tilt forward or unpin. The rear fenders and running boards install as stock.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer modified, S10 frames for sale?
Yes and No. Part of the cost savings with using the donor frame is to apply your own labor and to avoid paying chassis shipping charges. Also, we don't want to be responsible for selecting a used chassis that may not meet the customer's approval. That said, we can procure and modify a donor frame for you.
Which S10 donor models will work?
All three sizes can be used for this S10 chassis swap. The Standard Cab/Long Bed (118" wheelbase) and the Extra Cab/Short Bed (123" wheelbase), 2-wheel-drive chassis will work with their wheelbase shortened. The smallest S10 with the 108" wheelbase can be lengthened. No Blazers. We did have a customer successfully use a 4-wheel-drive chassis and maintain the 4wd functionality, but as we haven't done so I cannot detail what was required.
Why use an S10 as the donor chassis?
They are readily available, inexpensive, and there are already a ton of performance parts available like dropped spindles, brake kits, etc. The S10 chassis has also been used successfully by countless hot rodders as a donor for many classic cars and trucks.
How much will it cost me to modify and build up my S10 donor chassis?
There are a lot of variables, but assuming you purchase dropped spindles and get a good deal on the initial chassis, and not counting labor, you should be done for $2000-$3000.
Can I use other parts from the S10 donor vehicle?
Certainly the motor and transmission can be re-used, but other than that we have not attempted to re-use other parts like the steering column, radiator, fuel tank, wiring, etc. Please let us know what parts you successfully re-use!
Do you make any other S10 body kits? Will any of your other bodies fit on an S10 or any other donor chassis?
No, only the '37-'38 Chevy bodies have been designed for this swap. The biggest challenge is that most early bodies (32 Fords, 34 Chevys) are too narrow at the cowl for the S10 frame. Like anything in hot rodding, it can be made to work, but it requires extensive fabrication and modification.
Do you consider this an S10 Kit Car?
Opinions vary and each state defines a 'kit car' differently. We consider this an S-10 Body Kit, that in effect is an S10 chassis swap for a replica body. How your state will view it is something that you should research before building one.
Our body is hand-laid in our facility using 3 layers of 1.5oz fiberglass mat plus stiffening core mat added to most panels. We then add a comprehensive steel structure inside the body, install the doors and decklid, install the power windows, and deliver to you a body ready to bolt down to your chassis. It includes the following:
Body from the cowl back with firewall, dash, floor, doors and deck lid (hinged and mounted).
Power windows, with glass, installed.
Steel inner structure installed at firewall, dashboard, door posts, and throughout interior of body.
Finished in a glossy, black gelcoat ready for block sanding and paint.
Complete Body and Fender Package, including:
Front and rear fenders, smooth running boards, and brackets. Wide rear fenders available at no extra cost.
Hood, forward-tilt hood hinge kit, and hood sides. Choice of stock 1937; stock 1938; one-piece 1937; or pie-cut 1937 noses.
